Puppies will make you happy

Okay, so I really did think I’d get this posted right away. But man, oh, man did we have a week. But, luckily it’s behind us and a new week is here and things are good.

When we need a little pick me up, sometimes we turn to puppies. Because puppies are awesome. Big or small. Particularly husky type puppies, which have a special way of melting our hearts. Especially Matt’s.

For a couple years now we’ve talked about going up to Quebec to see some dog sledding dogs. Matt actually went to high school in dog sledding territory, so they aren’t a complete novelty. But, I guess we’re the type of people who would drive 7 hours north to spend some time with a pack of dogs.

All along, I was thinking we’d try dog sledding. So I did all the research. I had a few places checked out, but I never made reservations because every time I told Matt how much it cost (between $150-200 for both of us for a few hours) he’s say, "I just want to pet the puppies." And I’d think, "Hmmm. Okay. That’s a long way to drive to pet dogs." But I knew he really meant it, which deterred me from calling.

So we left on our trip without reservations, and of course when I called the night before from our hotel in Quebec, there were no slots. But no worries, because as it turns out, we found a place where petting the dogs was free out at Mont-Sainte-Anne. And, it really was all that was needed to make us both happy.

Then we went to watch the dogs harnessed up, waiting for the next group of dog sledders. While we were watching, the dogs were getting restless and a few started howling. And like a choir, the whole pack of about 30 dogs broke into song. It was amazing.

And then, it was quiet. And they waited to go.

But these two had to fight it out a bit when the waiting became too much to bear. "Hey there brother, settle down in the backseat!"

And then, it’s time. They’re off.

And before we take off too, we stop by and give a little more love to the dogs who were left behind on this ride.

Bye for now!

  1. Don’t mind me. I’m just stalking over from Steph’s blog. ;)
These are the best pictures! I especially love the howling duets. And it’s amazing how dogs are built to work and thrive in such demanding jobs.

  2. That’s why we’ve got one. Unfortunately, he seems inclined to sleep with us–and he takes up too much of the bed.

  3. What joyful photos of the canine choir! If only humans just burst into song together spontaneously … as strange as it would probably sound and as weird as it would actually be, the world might be a better place!
Glad you had the chance to pet those beauties!

  4. so so sweet. cuuuuuute. can’t wait to meet YOUR singing pooch! :)
today when I was adopting george, there was a husky running around the adoption center. she just kept howling away. it was so cute!
